In the 2/21/10 Parade magazine was a story about Tom Smallwood that I found so inspirational I had to share. You see Tom was a laid off auto worker who instead of giving into despair about his situation, got up and did what he had to do. “Tom was 31, had a wife and a 1 year old daughter, a mortgage --- and a bowling ball.’ I’ll let you read the story yourself but as you do so let it inspire and motivate you to something wonderful! You don’t have to have the ‘perfect’ situation to move forward with your goals. It’s another story of how adversity can move you to success.
Obstacles as Stepping Stones
There is a great book out called, “The Adversity Quotient” by Paul Stoltz one of our local business leaders and authors, who has studied the issue of how adversity can motivate us to achieve great things. Many people use the obstacles that come our way in life as reasons for not having success, which is unfortunate. With a slight change in how we look at them these same obstacles can be stepping stones that will move or motivate us to success.
Yes, it will require effort and might be a bit frightening as change often is. However keeping the end result – the goal – firmly in our mind will help us along to making it reality. There are many such stories of great change leading to success out there. If you have one email it to me as it might be just the thing to help someone else on their way to achieve what they might have never dreamed could be true.
