In business there are innumerable items that need to be done – yet there are some we don’t want to do. Maybe it is employee reviews, accounting, or whatever is your particular ‘not favorite’ thing to do. It is interesting how interruptions seem to ‘happen’ when we try to devote time to do these things. In fact it seems that we invent interruptions so we don’t have to concentrate on accomplishing the task at hand. It’s a kind of procrastination and there are many things around us that pander to our desire to procrastinate or avoid all together the things we don’t like doing.

The thought that comes to me after the events over the past couple of weeks is how fragile and dependent we are on each other not only on a local scale but on a larger scale as well. Here in California we live in earthquake central and having lived through several large earthquakes myself, it takes on an even greater significance. It has moved me to see so many caring and giving people willing to help those who we have had previously little to nothing to do with because of their location. It demonstrates to me that even in our own trying economic times there is still so much good that can be done by each one of us when we put forth the effort. It illustrates that many understand the concept that putting forth the effort, sometimes substantial effort, is what greatness is all about.
